Freeburg baseball scores 13 runs to knock off Mater Dei

The Freeburg Midgets defended their home field by defeating the Mater Dei Knights 13-3 in high school baseball Tuesday.

The Midgets started off the first inning with six runs. John Hilpert went 4 for 4 at the plate with a home run. Teammate Jack Lugge finished 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Cal Clossen was the winning pitcher for Freeburg, allowing five hits and three runs in five innings.

Freeburg (21-6) has won 14 of its last 15 games. The Midgets next face Red Bud at home Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Mater Dei (10-12) has now dropped four straight as it heads to Carlyle for a 4:30 p.m. game with the Indians on Wednesday.
