Mater Dei third at Tiger Classic, Edwarsdville places second
The Mater Dei Knights rebounded from a semifinal loss to the host team to finish third at the Edwardsville Tiger Classic volleyball tournament.
The Knights defeated Francis Howell North 25-20, 25-17 to clinch third place. Edwardsville fell to Eureka 25-19, 25-16 in the championship match.
Mater Dei is 8-2-2 on the season.
Myah Beckmann and Morgan Revermann led the Knights with five kils each. Mikaela Kues and Riley Pollman had four.
“We did a really nice job spreading it around this weekend,” said Mater Dei coach Chad Rakers. “We really focus on trying to keep the other team off balance by using as many players at the net as we can.”
Hallemann had 13 digs in the third place game. Kues and Hallemann were selected to the all-tournament team.
Mater Dei will be at home against O’Fallon on Tuesday.
Rachel Pranger led Edwardsville with six kills in the tournament championship game.
Edwardsville, 4-1 after the championship loss, is at St. Joseph’s on Wednesday.
Belleville West wins Quincy Tournament
The Belleville West Maroons clinched a three-set wins over Quincy and Galesburg Saturday to secure the Blue Devils tournament championship.
Katherine Koch was selected to the all-tournament team and Kaylee Hanger was the tournament’s most valuable player.
