High school girls volleyball roundup for Sept. 12
O’Fallon comes out on top against East
The Belleville East Lancers cannot seem to find their rhythm as they drop their fifth game of the season (0-5 overall, 0-1 conference) to O’Fallon. With scores of 25-23 and 25-18 the Lancers fought for the matches but were unable to come out ahead. O’Fallon improves to 8-2 overall and picks up its first conference win.
East will play another big conference game when hosting Collinsville, currently 2-0 in conference, on Sept. 14 for a 4:30 p.m. start.
O’Fallon will host Gibault on Sept. 15 in a nonconfernce match starting at 5 p.m.
Mascoutah just defeats Triad
Mascoutah manages to come on top against Triad to grab their first conference win of the season. The Indians defeated the Knights with close scores in each match (28-26, 25-22).
Leading the Indians in kills was MacKenzie Heriford with two kills and the lone block for Mascoutah.
Mascoutah (5-9) travels to Jersey to play a conference match on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. Triad (3-4) faces Highland on Sept. 14 at 4:15 p.m. in a conference match.
Central earns first conference win
Central (7-3 overall, 1-0 conference) walked away with a big conference win in a 2-1 set against Columbia (10-4 overall, 1-1 conference).
Central took the first and third sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-15. Columbia pushed the match to three when winning the second set 25-15.
Central plays at Freeburg on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. and Columbia at Sale on Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m.
Waterloo outplays Jersey
Waterloo (5-5) walks away with an easy win over Jersey (5-10). The Bulldogs held Jersey to four points in the first set. The second saw more Panthers points but not enough as they lost 25-16.
Waterloo hosts Civic Memorial next on Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. while Jersey faces Mascoutah on Sept. 14 at 6 p.m. both are Mississippi Valley Conference matches.
New Athens downs Lebanon
The Lebanon Greyhounds (1-6) were unable to overcome the New Athens Yellow Jackets (6-3).
The Greyhounds loss by scores of 25-12 and 25-16.
Lebanon next faces Steeleville at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 14 and New Athens takes a little break before playing Dupo on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. Both are Cahokia Conference matches.
Freeburg adds another win
The Freeburg Midgets lead the conference with a second win, their tenth of the season, as they took down Carlyle in two.
Freeburg won with scores of 25-18 and 25-12.
Both teams will play conference matches Sept. 19. Freeburg plays at Columbia at 5:30 p.m. and Carlyle plays at Salem at 7:30 p.m.
