How to check and report local basketball scores in real time to the BND
With the winter high school sports season underway in the metro-east and throughout Southern Illinois, the Belleville News-Democrat will continue with a successful new supplement to its coverage.
The BND has partnered with ScoreStream for real-time collection and reporting of high school sports results. ScoreStream is a crowd-sourcing-based operation that, for instance, allowed the BND to increase the number of Friday night football scores that are reported.
The partnership continues as local high school boys and girls move on to basketball.
You’ll find up-to-the-minute scores on bnd.com from high school games across News-Democrat coverage area. It displays on the sports channel and home page on game nights. On select game days, we’ll also publish the rotating scoreboard across the top of the bnd.com homepage.
The best part of this new system is that coaches, parents, students and fans may contribute by using the ScoreStream mobile app (check below for user instructions). The app allows users to report scores as well as upload photos and video clips from the games they’re watching.
In addition, with an extra push of a button, visitors can share ScoreStream updates to their social media accounts.
Schools covered include those in the Southwestern, Cahokia, Mississippi Valley conferences, plus some in the South Seven and Prairie State conference and several area independents. The BND has contacted the athletic directors of all of those schools, asking them to participate so that readers can have the most current information available from the maximum number of area schools.
ScoreStream collects scores for the following varsity sports: football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, baseball and softball. The BND ScoreStream scoreboard also will display score update for the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues. College teams of local interest also will be included over time. We’ll all be getting to know ScoreStream better in the months to come.
For now, bookmark us, share what you see, and return often to bnd.com.
