Top performers in high school sports for Aug. 29

Evan Sutton, Highland, Golf

Sutton scored a two-under-par 34 on nine holes to boost the Bulldogs to a win over Granite City and Triad at The Legacy Golf Course in Granite City. Highland ended the day with 164 points followed by Granite City at 171 points and Triad with 178 points.

Trent Holtgrave, Central, Soccer

Holtgrave, a senior for the Cougars, made two goals on Tuesday night to give his team the momentum it needed to push past Murphysboro by a score of 4-3.

Cree Stumpf, Roxana, Cross Country

Stumpf ran a 16:36 three mile at the Carlinville Early Meet on Wednesday afternoon, breezing to a 55-second win over the second place runner, Matthew Herren, of Rochester. Stumpf’s first place finish helped propel the Shells to the meet victory with 34 points. Jerseyville with 60 points and Rochester with 70 points rounded out the top three teams.
