With heavy rain and thunderstorms in the forecast for Friday, several metro-east high school football teams will get an early start to week three of the regular season.
The Quincy Blue Devils at Belleville East Lancers and Belleville West Maroons at Fort Zumwalt West Jaguars are two of several games involving local teams which have been moved to Thursday due to the remnants of Tropical Storm Gordon, which are expected in the region beginning on Friday.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Weather Underground and Accuweather were predicting a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms with up to 3 inches of rain through the day Saturday.
“With the rain and storms moving in we felt this was the best decision to be made,’’ Belleville West athletic director Lee Meyer said on Wednesday afternoon. “Both schools wanted to make sure we played this week. This was the best way to assure we do that.”
