Boys basketball roundup: East St. Louis, Mater Dei, Columbia post wins
Friday night featured a full slate of boys basketball games. Below is a quick snapshot of some of those games.
East St. Louis cruises past Belleville East
The Flyers raced to a 34-15 halftime lead and never looked back in taking down Belleville East 62-34 in the Southwestern Conference opener for both teams.
Jashawn Anderson led East St. Louis with 18 points, while Jabril Olivaria added 11 points. The Flyers are 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the SWC. The Lancers dropped to 2-4, 0-1.
Next up: The Flyers play at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, against Raymore-Peculiar at Mizzou Arena; Belleville East hosts Edwardsville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Alton collects road win against Jerseyville
The Redbirds posted an 83-66 road triumph against Jerseyville.
Tucker Shalley led the Panthers (3-3) with 20 points., while Matthew Jackson posted 12 points and Garrett Casey added 10 points. Alton improved to 3-1.
Next up: Alton plays at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, against Paducah Tilghman at Marion; Jerseyville visits Civic Memorial at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.
Centralia knocks off Althoff
The Orphans defeated the host Crusaders 62-48 in the South Seven Conference opener for both teams. Althoff fell to 2-3, while Centralia improved to 5-0.
Next up: Althoff entertains Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10.
John Burroughs at Mater Dei
The Knights improved to 4-1 with a decisive 61-32 home win against John Burroughs from Missouri.
Caleb Zurilene paced Mater Dei with a game-high 25 points, while Jacob Schadegg added 17 points. The Knights led 34-18 at halftime and outscored John Burroughs 19-8 in the third quarter to seal the victory.
Next up: Mater Dei visits Althoff at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Columbia defeats Wesclin at Mascoutah
The Eagles upped their ledger to 3-1 with a 54-37 win against the Warriors at Mascoutah.
Jackson Holmes led all scorers with 24 points and added seven rebounds. Grant Fridley led Wesclin (1-4) with 12 points.
Next up: Columbia hosts Roxana at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10; Wesclin entertains Piasa Southwestern at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Red Bud falls to Du Quoin
The Musketeers dropped a 61-36 outcome to the host Indians.
The scored was tied at 24 at halftime before Du Quoin pulled away in the second half. Red Bud dropped to 0-2.
Next up: The Musketeers play at 11 a.m. against Carmi-White County and at 4 p.m. against Cairo on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Du Quoin.
Nashville downs Mascoutah
The visiting Hornets led 25-12 at halftime and cruised to a 52-32 victory against the Indians
Carson Parker led Nashville (4-0) with 21 points, while Terry Pelczynski added 13 points. Ryan Bibb led Mascoutah (2-2) with 13 points.
Next up: Nashville visits Marion at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7; Mascoutah visits Salem at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10.
