Poll results: Here’s the high school girls basketball player of the week in southwest Illinois

Kaylyn Wylie of Granite City High School is the winner of the Belleville News-Democrat Girls Player of the Week high school basketball poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent high school basketball games, Wylie, a junior guard, scored 14 points in a loss to Freeburg, 6 points in loss to Alton Marquette, 28 points in a win against Father McGivney JV and 21 points in a win against West Central. Wylie entered the weekend averaging 13.1 points per game.

Wylie tallied 702 votes (43%) to finish ahead of Kylie Kisgen of Freeburg High School, who secured 615 votes (37%) and Shannon Dowell of O’Fallon High School, who collected 271 votes (16%).

Other nominees from the BND’s area included Riley Jansen of Breese Central High, Megan Janson of Collinsville High School and Maliah Sparks of Belleville West High School. The poll ended at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

To be clear, this poll is not scientific. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. It’s all for fun, BND readers.
