The BND Athlete of the Week highlights high school varsity boys and girls basketball players who put in outstanding performances from the week prior to the opening of the poll. If you want to suggest someone to be included, send an email to Garen Vartanian at gvartanian@bnd.com.
Please include the athlete’s name, school, class, position, and applicable game performance statistics. Coaches must be willing to verify information.
To be clear, this poll is not scientific. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. It’s all for fun, BND readers. People also may submit the same athlete from week to week.
We are planning to post the results later this week after the poll closes.

- Reagan Chigas, Triad High School, senior, G. Scored 21 points in win against Columbia, 18 points in win against Highland and 18 points in win against Mascoutah while averaging 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game in the three victories. Averaging 8.6 points per game.
- Elle Evans, Edwardsville High School, senior, G/F. Scored 18 points in win against Lutheran North and 12 points in win against Belleville West. Averaging 14.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.64 assists per game.
Norah Gum, Waterloo High School, junior, F. Scored 11 points in loss to Civic Memorial and 24 points in win against Jerseyville. Averaging 17.6 points and 9 rebounds per game.
Karsen Jany, Columbia High School, junior, G. Scored 12 points in loss to Triad, 12 points in win against Roxana and 15 points in victory against Red Bud. Averaging 13.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game.
- Shakara McCline, East. St. Louis High School, junior, PG. Last week, she averaged 25 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals and 4 assists per game. McCline scored 22 in a loss to Civic Memorial, 30 points in a loss to Belleville West, 26 points in a victory against Lift For Life and 15 points in a loss against Belleville East. Averaging 19.1 points per game.
Maliah Sparks, Belleville West High School, junior, G. Scored 13 points in win against Alton and 25 points in win against East St. Louis. Averaging 17.2 ppg.
