Poll results: Here’s the high school girls basketball player of the week in southwest Illinois

Reagan Chigas of Triad High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Girls Player of the Week high school basketball poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent high school basketball games, Chigas, a senior guard, scored 21 points in win against Columbia, 18 points in win against Highland and 18 points in win against Mascoutah while averaging 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals per game in the three victories.

Chigas then helped the Knights win the regional championship by scoring 15 points in the title game against Waterloo — a 55-53 overtime victory. She entered action this week averaging 8.8 points per game for the 21-9 Knights, who now face Mattoon at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the Civic Memorial Sectional.

Chigas tallied 67% of the votes to finish ahead of other BND nominees Elle Evans of Edwardsville High School, Norah Gum of Waterloo High School, Karsen Jany of Columbia High School, Shakara McCline of East St. Louis High School and Maliah Sparks of Belleville West High School. The poll ended at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

To be clear, this poll is not scientific. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. It’s all for fun, BND readers.
