Want to nominate a Team of the Year for next week? The BND Team of the Year will highlight high school varsity boys and girls basketball teams who had outstanding seasons. If you want to suggest a team to be included, send an email to Garen Vartanian at gvartanian@bnd.com.

Please include the athlete’s name, school, class, position, and applicable game performance statistics. Coaches must be willing to verify information.

To be clear, this poll is not scientific. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. It’s all for fun, BND readers. People also may submit the same athlete from week to week.

Here are this week’s nominees:

• Shannon Dowell, O’Fallon High School, junior, G. Eclipsed the 1,000-point plateau this season and finished the campaign averaging 16.6 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.48 per game for the 25-6 Panthers.
• Elle Evans, Edwardsville High School, senior, G/F. Finished the season averaging 14.7 points, 5.9 rebounds per and 3.31 assists per game game for the 29-5 Tigers.
• Karsen Jany, Columbia High School, junior, G. Finished the season averaging 13.5 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for the 16-16 Eagles.
  
  
• Natalie Peterson, Freeburg High School, junior, G/F. Finished the season averaging 11.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.19 rebounds per game for the 26-6 Midgets.
