Poll results: Here’s the high school baseball player of the week in southwest Illinois
Alex Wright of Granite City High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Baseball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
In recent action, Wright, a senior pitcher/infielder, collected 3 hits and 3 RBI while drawing 2 walks and scoring 2 runs. Additionally, he pitched 6 1/3 innings while striking out 11 (including 6 looking) and allowing just 2 hits and 1 run in earning the win. As of Friday, Wright was hitting .346 this spring with one homer, 10 RBI and one win on the mound.
Wright tallied 63% of the votes to finish ahead of other BND nominees Eli Hoerner of Freeburg High School, Connor Lindsey of O’Fallon High School, Joseph Mendiola of Belleville East High School, John Rea of Triad High School and James Vambaketes of Alton High School. The poll ended at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
To be clear, this poll is not scientific. In fact, we invite you to vote as many times as you want. It’s all for fun, BND readers.
