Sophia Donoho of Highland High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Softball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In a recent action, Donoho, a sophomore pitcher, Donoho fired a complete-game 3-hit shutout while striking out 9 in a regional semifinal win against Centralia. She then threw another complete-game shutout in leading the Lady Bulldogs to the regional championship. Donoho is 16-7 on the season with a 3.27 earned run average and 169 strikeouts in 147 2/3 innings pitched.

Donoho tallied 47% of the votes to finish ahead of other BND nominees Nicole Edmiaston of Freeburg High School, Lizzy Ludwig of Freeburg High School, Mia Miller of Waterloo High School, Payton Todd of Belleville West High School and Ailene Walker of Belleville East High School. The poll ended at 10 a.m. Friday.
