Poll results: Here’s the high school football player of the week in southwest Illinois

Cole Stuart of Freeburg High School is the winner of the latest Belleville News-Democrat Football Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

Stuart, a junior, quarterback/defensive back, completed 6-of-10 passes for 121 yards and 1 touchdown in 38-20 win against Nashville on Friday, Sept. 2.

Stuart — who secured 34% of the votes — also rushed for 106 yards and 3 touchdowns on 11 carries, while grabbing 2 passes for 69 yards and booting 2 punts with a 39-yard average.

Here were the other candidates from Week 2 action:

  • Kendrick Lyons, Granite City High School, sophomore, quarterback/defensive back. Lyons completed 18-of-31 passes for 435 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 34-32 loss Carbondale.

  • Ian Poston, Granite City High School, senior, wide receiver/defensive back. Poston hauled in 9 receptions for 130 yards and 1 touchdown against Carbondale.

  • Zaiden Kelley, Granite City High School, sophomore, wide receiver/defensive back. Kelley notched 11 tackles and had 1 interception and two pass breakups against the Terriers.

  • Abby Knight, Granite City High School, sophomore, kicker. Knight went 3-for-3 on extra points and 1-for-1 on field attempts against Carbondale.

  • Dominic Voegele, Columbia High School, senior, quarterback/defensive back. Voegele rushed for 177 yards and 1 touchdown on 33 carries in a 9-0 victory against rival Waterloo. Voegele also completed 12-of-16 passes for 71 yards and booted a 47-yard field goal. On defense, Voegele recorded 7 tackles — including 1 tackle for loss — and had 2 interceptions.

  • Jerry Richardson, Collinsville High School, senior, running back/defensive back. Richardson rushed for 177 yards and 1 touchdown in a 29-14 win against Triad. Richardson also hauled in 3 passes for 50 yards while recording 4 tackles on defense.

  • Kolby Anderson, Collinsville High School, senior, quarterback/defensive back. Anderson rushed for 18 yards and 1 touchdown while grabbing 2 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown against the Knights. Anderson also notched 4 tackles on defense and had 1 pass breakup.

  • Eric Stuber, Collinsville High School, senior, wide receiver/lineback. Stuber collected 3 total tackles — including 1 tackle for loss — and recovered 2 fumbles against Triad.

  • OJ Mosely, Belleville East High School, senior, offensive lineman/defensive lineman. Mosely notched 5 tackles, blocked a punt and scored a defensive touchdown in a 33-22 loss to Pekin.

  • Braden Revermann, Breese Central, senior, wide received/defensive back. Revermann had 3 receptions for 64 yards, while, on defense, recorded 1 solo tackle, had 1 assist and nabbed 2 interceptions for 17 return yards in a 27-14 loss to Mater Dei.

  • Koen Rodebush, Triad High School, senior, defensive back. Rodebush posted 10 tackles and collected 2 interceptions while booting 5 punts for 210 yards (42 yard average) against Collinsville.

  • Robert Battle, East St. Louis High School, junior, quarterback. Battle completed 15-of-27 passes for 263 yards and 5 touchdowns while rushing for 84 yards and 1 touchdown on 10 carries in a 64-19 win against CBC.

  • TaRyan Martin, East St. Louis High School, sophomore, running back. Martin rushed for 152 yards and 1 touchdown on 14 carries against the Cadets.

  • Jalen Smith, O’Fallon High School, senior, wide receiver. Smith hauled in 6 catches for 133 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 35-13 win against Troy Buchanan.

The poll ended at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8.
