Poll results: O’Fallon High School star kicker Player of the Week in southwest Illinois
Brogan Hartman of O’Fallon High School is the winner of the latest Belleville News-Democrat Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
Hartman, a sophomore kicker, booted a 52-yard field goal in a 52-0 win against Alton on Oct. 14. Entering play Friday night, that was the longest field goal in the state of Illinois this year.
Hartman — who secured 51% of the votes — entered Friday night’s game against Cahokia with 3 field goals and 31 extra points on the season. Additionally, Hartman had boomed 43 kickoffs for a total of 2,067 yards (48.07 average) and 3 punts for 80 yards (26.67 average) heading into Friday night.
Here were the other candidates for the week of Oct. 10-15:
Dominic Voegele, Columbia High School, senior, quarterback/defensive back. Voegele rushed for 385 yards and 4 touchdowns on 23 carries in a 28-27 win against Breese Central. Voegele also booted 4 extra points and collected 11 tackles.
Armon Vinson, Belleville East High School, junior, quarterback/defensive back. Vinson completed 10-of-13 passes for 154 yards and 3 touchdowns (no interceptions) in a 41-0 win against Belleville West. Vinson also caught a touchdown pass and had 31-yard touchdown run.
Brent Wuebbels, Highland High School, senior, quarterback/free safety. Wuebbels completed 16-of-21 passes for 182 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 56-0 win against Mascoutah.
Travis Porter, Highland High School, senior, running back/linebacker. Porter rushed for 152 yards on 17 carries against Mascoutah.
Omarion Gooden, Cahokia High School, senior, quarterback/defensive back. Gooden completed 7-of-12 passes for 138 yards and 4 touchdowns in a 56-6 win against Althoff.
Nicholas Deloach Jr., Cahokia High School, senior, wide receiver/cornerback. Deloach Jr. caught touchdown passes of 36 yards and 69 yards, returned an interception 90 yards for a touchdown and returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown against Althoff.
Zay Norton, Collinsville High School, junior, running back/linebacker. Norton had 7 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss and 1 fumble recovery in a 15-14 win against Champaign Centennial.
Darren Pennell, Collinsville High School, junior, wide receiver/defensive back. Pennell had 5 receptions for 57 yards and 1 touchdown against Champaign Centennial. He also recorded 4 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss and forced 1 fumble.
