Poll results: O’Fallon High School volleyball star Player of the Week in southwest IL

Annalie McWhorter of O’Fallon High School is the winner of the latest Belleville News-Democrat Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

McWhorter, a senior outside hitter for the Panthers, finished the regular season with 249 kills, tops in the Southwestern Conference. She also posted a hitting percentage of .271 (third in the SWC), 37 aces (4th in the SWC), a 95.5% serving average, 266 digs (3rd in the SWC) and 371 service receptions. She helped the Panthers capture the league title with an 11-1 mark.

McWhorter — who secured 29% of the votes — then helped the 30-6 Panthers defeat Belleville East on Thursday to capture the regional championship.

Here were the other candidates for the week of Oct. 17-22

  • The Belleville East defense. The Lancers defense allowed only 37 total yards, including just 18 rushing yards, in a 66-0 win against Granite City. They also posted 3 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries, 4 interceptions and 2 defensive touchdowns in helping the team qualify for a playoff spot.

  • Tyler Schmieder, Althoff Catholic High School, senior, kicker. Schmieder kicked a game-winning, 20-yard field goal in a 17-14 win at Alton, a victory that vaulted the Crusaders into the postseason.
  • Jahkori Adams, Belleville West High School, junior, running back/defensive back. Adams rushed for 133 yards on 26 carries in a 22-20 loss to Hickman, Missouri.
  • Colt Michael, O’Fallon High School, senior, quarterback. Michael 16-of-33 passes for 223 yards and 3 TD in a 49-20 win against Cahokia.
  • Kolby Anderson, Collinsville High School, quarterback/defensive back. Anderson rushed for 197 yards and 3 TD on 28 carries in a 35-31 win against Centralia. He also completed 9-of-16 passes for 142 yards.
  • Isaiah Norton, Collinsville High School, junior, running back/linebacker. Norton rushed for 121 yards on 12 carries in the victory against Centralia.
  • Evan Davis, Waterloo High School, senior, running back. Davis rushed for 256 yards and 3 TD on 25 carries in a 45-14 win against Freeburg.
  • Chase Lucht, Red Bud High School, junior, wide receiver/linebacker. Lucht had 19-yard fumble return for a touchdown in a 14-12 win against Wood River.
  • Conner Freeze, Breese Central High School, senior, quarterback/defensive back. Freeze completed 9 passes for 234 yards and 3 TD in a 27-9 win against Herrin.
  • Braden Revermann, Breese Central High School, senior, wide receiver/defensive back. Revermann caught 5 passes for 143 yards and 2 TD in the victory against Herrin.
  • Logan Stevens, Dupo High School, senior, running back/defensive back. Stevens rushed for 203 yards and 3 TD on 22 carries in a 36-30 win against Nokomis that helped the Tigers secure a playoff berth.
