East St. Louis to celebrate state champion Flyers with parade. Here are the details

The community of East St. Louis will have a chance to celebrate its state championship football team later this week.

The Flyers defeated Prairie Ridge 57-7 on Saturday to claim the IHSA Class 6A crown, marking the program’s 10th state championship.

Sydney Stigge-Kaufman, executive director of communications and strategic partnerships for East St. Louis School District 189, confirmed Tuesday afternoon a victory celebration for the team will take place Friday.

Festivities will kick off at 12:30 p.m. with an assembly/pep rally at Clyde C. Jordan Stadium for the student body and parents of the football team. The parade, which is open to the public, will begin at approximately 1 p.m. and run down State Street from the high school to the board of education building.
