Poll results: Freeburg standout guard Boys Player of the Week in southwestern Illinois

Cole Stuart of Freeburg High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Boys Player of the Week high school basketball poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In two recent wins, Stuart, a junior guard, averaged 18.5 points per game, collecting 15 points and 5 steals against Roxana and 22 points, 5 assists and 2 steals against Wood River.

Overall, Stuart, who secured 40% of the votes, entered weekend action averaging 19.4 points, 2.13 assists and 2.5 steals per gam for the 5-3 Midgets.

Here were the other candidates for the week of Dec. 5-10:

  • Bennett Briles, Nashville High School, senior, C/F. Briles notched 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks while hitting the game-winning 3-pointer over undefeated Triad; 13 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks in a win at Anna-Jonesboro; and 20 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks in a win against Cahokia.

  • Devin Hall, Red Bud High School, senior, F. Hall posted 16 points and grabbed 7 rebounds against Waterloo.

  • D’kyren Kizer, Cahokia High School, senior, G. Kizer scored 18 points in a loss to Centralia and 17 points in a setback to Nashville.

  • Dylan Murphy, Columbia High School, senior, forward. Murphy was 12-for-21 from the field against Salem — including 7-of-14 on 3-point attempts — for 31 points in the Eagles’ win.

  • Miles Ntekop, Mascoutah High School, junior, C. Ntekop posted 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks against Salem; 10 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks against Waterloo; and 14 points and 7 rebounds against Ridgewood, all victories for the Indians.

  • Jordan Pickett, Belleville East High School, senior, G. Pickett scored 13 points in a win against Edwardsville and 19 points in a victory against Rock Bridge.

  • Macaleab Rich, East St. Louis High School, senior, G. Rich had 25 points and 12 rebounds in a win against Alton, 13 points in a loss to Collinsville and 29 points and 18 rebounds in a win against Chicago Hillcrest.

  • Jake Wilkinson, Collinsville High School, senior, F. Wilkinson notched 14 points in a win against East St. Louis and 23 points in a victory against Ladue..

  • Koby Wilmoth, O’Fallon High School, senior, F. In a pair of victories, Wilmoth posted 24 points against Alton and 17 points against Carterville.

  • Antwine Wilson, Belleville East High School, senior, G/F. Wilson averaged 18 points per game and 8 rebounds per game in victories against Edwardsville and Rock Bridge.

The poll ended at 10 a.m. Friday.
