O’Fallon scores road win, Belleville East stays undefeated in big night of boys hoops
Friday night saw another full slate of boys basketball games at metro-east gyms.
Here is a brief recap of some of the key games.
O’Fallon 53, Collinsville 50
The Panthers pulled out a 3-point home win against the Kahoks in a Southwestern Conference showdown.
O’Fallon improved to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in SWC action, while Collinsville dropped to 7-3, 2-2.
Look ahead: O’Fallon plays at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. Collinsville visits Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Belleville East 66, Alton 31
Jordan Pickett posted 20 points and helped lead the host Lancers to an 35-point win against the Redbirds. Antwine Wilson added 10 points as East improved to 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the Southwestern Conference.
The Redbirds fell to 1-7, 0-4.
Look ahead: Both teams resume action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, as the Lancers entertain Althoff and the Redbirds host O’Fallon.
Carbondale 62, Althoff 56
The Crusaders dropped a tough six-point decision in a South Seven Conference match-up with the visiting Terriers.
Althoff is 5-5, 0-3.
Look ahead: Althoff resumes action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Belleville East.
Freeburg 65, Salem 44
The Midgets had little trouble improving to 6-3, posting a 21-point road victory against the Wildcats.
Freeburg is now 3-0 in the Mississippi Division of the Cahokia Conference.
Look ahead: The Midgets visit Breese Central at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Columbia 62, Monmouth-Roseville 31
The Eagles rolled to a 31 point non-conference road win, improving to 8-1.
Dylan Murphy notched a game-high 25 points, while teammate Jack Steckler posted 17 points.
Look ahead: Columbia resume action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Roxana.
Civic Memorial 46, Waterloo 33
The Eagles eased their way to a 13-point road victory against the Bulldogs in Mississippi Valley Conference action.
CM is now 6-3 overall, 1-2 in the MVC. Waterloo is 1-5, 0-2.
Look ahead: CM visits Highland at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19. The Bulldogs face host Jerseyville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Mascoutah 51, Jerseyville 38
The Indians improved to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the MVC with a 13-point road win against the Panthers, who fell to 6-4, 2-1.
Look ahead: The Indians visit Triad at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
Gibault 63, Mater Dei 52
The Hawks led 29-20 at halftime and ultimately posted an 11-point victory against the visiting Knights.
Gavin Kesler led Gibault (7-2) with 21 points while Kaden Augustine posted 15 points and Hudson Blank scored 13 points.
Nick Lampe led Mater Dei (3-3) with 16 points and Drake Wagner added 14 points.
Kaden Augustine led the Hawks with 15 points, while Hudson Blank and Kameron Hanvey eached notched 9 points.
Look ahead: Mater Dei hosts Collinsville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20. The Hawks open action in the Freeburg-Columbia Holiday Tournament at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, against Alton Marquette. This will take place at Freeburg High School.

- Red Bud dropped a 48-47 verdict to host Chester in a Cahokia Conference game (Illinois Division). The Musketeers (6-2, 0-1) host Carlyle at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
- Cahokia dropped to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the South Seven Conference following a 72-57 road loss to Mount Vernon. The Comanches will open action at the 79th Annual Centralia Holiday Tournament at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, against Marist.
- Breese Central was idle. The Cougars (7-0, 2-0 in Mississippi Division of Cahokia Conference) will host Freeburg at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.
