Poll results: Althoff Catholic star guard Girls Player of the Week in southwest IL

Clareece Davis of Althoff Catholic High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Girls Player of the Week high school basketball poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent action, Davis, a senior guard, scored 17 points and had 5 assists in a win against Belleville East and 18 points in a victory against Centralia. Davis, who tallied 61% of the votes, is averaging 14.0 points, 3.9 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game.

Here were the other candidates for the week of Dec. 12-17:

• Shannon Dowell, O’Fallon High School, senior, G. Dowell collected 28 points and 9 rebounds in a win against Waterloo and 20 points in a victory against Collinsvlle.

• Norah Gum, Waterloo High School, senior, F. Gum posted 25 points in a loss to O’Fallon and 22 points in a victory against Civic Memorial.

• Karsen Jany, Columbia High School, senior, G. Jany posted 20 posted and 5 steals in a win against Valmeyer; 21 points in a win against Waterloo; 17 points in a loss to Breese Central; and 22 points in a triumph against Chester. In the process, Jany was named MVP of the Gibault Candy Cane Classic.

• Kylie Kisgen, Freeburg High School, senior, PG. Kisgen Scored 13 points in 54-31 win over Salem and 24 points in a 54-50 win over Breese Central while shooting 71% from 2-point range and 60% from 3-point range.

• Keyara Baerga-Plumey, Belleville West High School, senior, G. Baerga-Plumey notched 20 points in a victory against East St. Louis.

• Kaylyn Wiley, Granite City High School, senior, PG. Wiley scored 12 points in a win over McCluer and 16 points in an overtime loss to Carbondale High School.

The poll ended at 8 a.m. Friday.
