Freeburg edges Breese Central in girls hoops. Here’s a look at 6 games from Monday
Monday night saw another full slate of girls basketball games at metro-east gyms.
Here is a brief recap of some of the key games.
Freeburg 54, Breese Central 50
Behind 24 points from Kylie Kisgen, the Midgets posted a four-point win against the visiting Cougars.
Look ahead: Both teams open action at the Mascoutah Holiday Tournament on Tuesday, Dec. 27, as the Cougars face Highland at 4 p.m. and the Midgets take on Nashville at 7 p.m.
Columbia 60, Roxana 23
The host Eagles rolled to victory while improving to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the Mississippi Division of the Cahokia Conference. The Shells are 3-6, 1-3.
Jorden Holten led the way with 14 points, while Karsen Jany — who recently scored her 1,000th career point — and Ava Langhans each posted 13 points for the Eagles.
Look ahead: The Eagles visit Oakville at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21.
Highland 59, Civic Memorial 57
The host Lady Bulldogs pulled out a two-point victory against the Eagles.
Grace Wilke and Jordan Bircher each posted 21 points to pace Highland, which improved to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference. CM dropped to 8-5, 3-2.
Look ahead: The Lady Bulldogs visit O’Fallon at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21. CM will compete in a tournament at Visitation High School in Missouri next week.
Waterloo 58, Jerseyville 38
The visiting Bulldogs eased to a 20-point victory while improving to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the Mississippi Valley Conference. The Panthers dropped to 7-7, 0-5.
Liv Colson paced Waterloo with 19 points, while Norah Gum added 16 points.
Look ahead: The Bulldogs host Marissa at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, in a tournament at Waterloo High School.
Belleville West 56, Granite City 22
The visiting Maroons rolled to a non-conference victory while improving to 2-8. The Warriors dropped to 5-5.
West outscored Granite City 20-5 in the first quarter and 18-3 in the second quarter in cruising to the win.
Look ahead: The Maroons open action at the Mascoutah Holiday Tournament at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, against Mater Dei. The Warriors host Belleville East at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22.
Collinsville 53, Alton Marquette 27
The host Kahoks had little trouble improving to 8-4 with their non-conference win against the Explorers, who fell to 7-6.
Collinsville led 19-8 after a quarter and 32-14 at halftime and never looked back. Haley Rodgers led Alton Marquette with 9 points.
Look ahead: The Kahoks will compete in a holiday tournament at MICDS in Missouri next week.
Other notables:
- Althoff enters the holiday break at 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the South Seven Conference. The Crusaders resume action at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at a tournament at Waterloo High School.
- Alton is 10-0 overall and 4-0 in the Southwestern Conference. The Redbirds open action at the Mascoutah Holiday Tournament at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, against McCluer.
- Gibault is 9-1 and next plays at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Wesclin. The Hawks then open tournament action at Waterloo High School at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, against Carlyle.
- Mater Dei is 9-2 and will resume action at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, against Belleville West at the Mascoutah Holiday Tournament.
- O’Fallon is 10-2 overall and 3-1 in the Southwestern Conference. The Panthers will host Highland at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21. They then will face Riverview Gardens (Missouri) at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27, at the Mascoutah Holiday Tournament.
