Belleville East gets win at Highland Shootout. Here’s a recap of other weekend games
The metro-east boys and girls basketball seasons continued with several games over the weekend.
Here is a quick view of some of the outcomes from Saturday.
BOYS
Belleville East 65, Hillcrest 59
The Lancers’ second half comeback led to a six-point victory over the Hawks at the 31st annual Highland Optimist Scott Credit Union Shootout.
Jordan Pickett led Belleville East with 20 points and received MVP for the game. The Lancers are now 15-2 overall.
Look ahead: Belleville East faces East St. Louis at the former Lindenwood-Belleville campus at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Mater Dei 52, Belleville West 47
The Knights posted a five-point victory against the Maroons.
Belleville West dropped to 6-9 while the Knights improved to 9-6 overall.
Look ahead: Mater Dei visits Pinckneyville and Belleville West hosts Edwardsville — both at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Stanley 67, East St. Louis 48
The Falcons dominated the Flyers in a 19-point victory at the Highland Shootout.
East St. Louis fell to 9-3 overall.
Look ahead: East St. Louis face Belleville East at the former Lindenwood-Belleville campus at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Highland 57, Quincy Norte Dame 54
The Bulldogs won a tight match-up by three-points against the Raiders at the Highland Shootout.
Jake Ottensmeier led Highland with 15 points. Highland improved to 12-6 overall.
Look ahead: Highland hosts SIUE Charter at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.
Triad 42, Alton 20
The Knights coasted to a 22-point victory over the Redbirds.
McGrady Noyes led Triad with 19 points. Triad improved to 12-5 while Alton dropped to 3-13.
Look ahead: Alton hosts Collinsville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10. Triad visits Waterloo at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.
GIRLS
Alton 63, Arlington Heights Hersey 50
The Redbirds dominated the Huskies with a 13-point victory.
Jarius Powers led Alton with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Alton is now 17-0 overall.
Look ahead: Alton visits Collinsville at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10.
O’Fallon 50, Cape Norte Dame 31
The Panthers got a decisive 19-point win against the Bulldogs.
Shannon Dowell led O’Fallon with 18 points. O’Fallon improved to 17-3.
Look ahead: O’Fallon visits Belleville West at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12.
Breese Central 57, McLeansboro Hamilton Country 17
The Cougars won big by 40-points against the Foxes.
Breese Central is now 12-6.
Look ahead: Breese Central visits Salem at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12.
Highland 54, Waterloo 52
The Bulldogs beat the opposing Bulldogs by two points at the Highland Shootout.
Grace Wilke led Highland with 24 points while Norah Gum anchored Waterloo with 23 points. Highland improved to 17-4 overall and 6-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference while Waterloo fell to 11-6, 3-3.
Look ahead: Both teams play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, as Highland visits Mascoutah and Waterloo hosts Triad.
