Columbia, Breese Central roll to victory. Here’s a recap from Friday night’s boys games

The metro-east boys basketball seasons continued with a big slate of games Friday night.

Here is a quick view of some of the outcomes.

Columbia 81, Wood River 36

The Eagles rolled to a big victory against the Oilers.

Dylan Murphy paced Columbia with 19 points, while Sam Donald and Jack Steckler posted 11 points each. Devon Green led Wood River with 14 points.

The Eagles are now 17-2 overall and and 5-0 in the Mississippi Division of the Cahokia Conference. The Oilers are 8-13, 2-4.

Look ahead: Wood River hosts Marissa at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18. Columbia hosts Waterloo at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24.

Breese Central 61, Salem 22

The Cougars cruised to victory while improving to 18-2 overall and 5-0 in the Mississippi Division of the Cahokia Conference. The Wildcats dropped to 5-14, 1-5.

Look ahead: Breese Central faces Brentwood (Missouri) at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Jan, 16, at the 40th annual Nashville Invitational.

Freeburg 57, Roxana 30

The Midgets eased to a 27-point victory against the Shells.

Freeburg is now 12-7 overall and 4-2 in the Mississippi Division of the Cahokia Conference. The Shells are 7-12, 0-6.

Lane Otten led the Midgets with 14 points while Julian Trentman posted 13 points and Cole Stuart scored 12 points.

Look ahead: Freeburg faces Waterloo at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the 58th annual Sparta Mid-Winter Classic. Roxana travels to Bunker Hill at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24.

Edwardsville 57, Alton 40

The Tigers eased their way to a 17-point Southwestern Conference victory against the Redbirds.

Edwardsville is now 12-7 overall, 4-3 in league play. Alton dropped to 3-15, 0-8.

Look ahead: The Tigers face Cahokia at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Jerseyville Mid-Winter Classic. The Redbirds will face Althoff at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the annual Chick-fil-A Belleville East Classic.

Marion 45, Althoff 40

The Crusaders dropped a five-point verdict to the Wildcats.

Althoff is now 6-14 overall and 0-5 in the South Seven Conference.

Look ahead: The Crusaders face Alton at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Chick-fil-A Belleville East Classic.

Triad 55, Waterloo 15

The Knights coasted to a 40-point victory against the Bulldogs.

Triad improved to 13-5 overall, 4-1 in the Mississippi Valley Conference. Waterloo dropped to 5-11, 0-5.

Look ahead: Triad plays Mattoon at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Litchfield Tournament. Waterloo faces Waterloo at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the 58th annual Sparta Mid-Winter Classic.

Jerseyville 54, Civic Memorial 53

The Panthers slipped past the Eagles in Mississippi Valley Conference action.

Jerseyville improved to 12-7, 4-2 while CM dropped to 8-11, 2-4.

Look ahead: Jerseyville faces Granite City at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the Jerseyville Mid-Winter Classic. Civic Memorial faces Hillsboro at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Litchfield Tournament.

Other notables:

  • Gibault currently is playing in the 59th annual Chester Invitational and will face the host school at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, in the title game. After wrapping up tournament action Saturday, the Hawks (16-3) now are off until facing Red Bud at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, on the road.

Midseason tournaments

Here are the fields for some upcoming tournaments this week.

  • The annual Chick-fil-A Belleville East Classic starts Tuesday, Jan. 17, and wraps up Saturday, Jan. 21. Teams included in the field are Althoff, Alton, Belleville East, Belleville West, Collinsville, Hazelwood Central (Missouri) and Lift for Life, McCluer (Missouri)
  • The 40th annual Nashville Invitational kicks off Monday, Jan. 16, and concludes Saturday, Jan. 21, at Nashville High School. Teams included in the field are Breese Central, Brentwood, KIPP St. Louis, Marion, Mascoutah, Mater Dei, Metro-East Lutheran and Nashville.
  • The 58th annual Sparta Mid-Winter Classic starts Tuesday, Jan. 17, and wraps up Saturday, Jan. 21, at Sparta High School. Teams included in the field are Freeburg, Lovejoy, Murphysboro Red Bud, Murphysboro, Sparta, Steeleville, Sparta Trico and Waterloo.
  • The Jerseyville Mid-Winter Classic begins Tuesday, Jan. 17, and concludes Friday, Jan. 20. The field includes Cahokia, Edwardsville, Granite City and Jerseyville.
  • The Litchfield Rick McGraw Memorial also takes place next week and includes Triad, Father McGivney, the Alton Marquette JV team and Civic Memorial.
