Belleville West boys move into semifinals at Belleville East, Alton girls advance

Mid-winter basketball tournaments are taking place this week.

Lift for Life 52, Collinsville 47

The Hawks edged the Kahoks to move into the semifinal round.

Dennis Olds led Lift for Life — which improved to 8-5 — with 16 points. Jake Wilkinson paced the Kahoks — who fell to 13-8 — with 13 points.

Belleville West 58, Hazelwood Central 48

The Maroons advanced into the semifinals with a 10-point win against the Hawks (6-6).

Daylen Byrd paced Belleville West with 19 points, while David Marshall Jr. added 11 points and Quincy Cotton posted 10 points.

The Maroons, who improved to 9-10, will face Lift for Life at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, in the semifinals.

36th annual Highland Tournament

Collinsville 56, Waterloo 44

Behind 20 points from Talesha Gilmore, the Kahoks eased past the Bulldogs.

Megan Janson added 12 points and Ella Guerrero chipped in 11 points for the Kahoks, who improved to 12-11.

Sam Lindhorst paced Waterloo with 18 points, while Norah Gum added 12 points. The Bulldogs dropped to 14-8.

Nashville 51, Taylorville 49

The Hornettes slipped past the Tornadoes to improve to 7-8

Alton 45, Mater Dei 34

The Redbirds remained perfect at 22-0 with an 11-point win against the Knights, who fell to 16-4.

Alton now advances to the championship game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.

58th annual Sparta Mid-Winter Classic

Freeburg 57, Waterloo 44

The Midgets improved to 13-7 following a 13-point victory against the Bulldogs, who fell to 5-14.

In other outcomes Wednesday at Sparta, the host Bulldogs (12-5) defeated Lovejoy (10-8) 62-58 while Murphysboro defeated Steeleville 49-39.

40th annual Nashville Invitational

In Wednesday games at Nashville, KIPP St. Louis (14-4) defeated Metro-East Lutheran (3-13) 73-34 and Marion (10-10) handled Brentwood (4-11) 53-26.

Jerseyville Mid-Winter Classic

Granite City 51, Edwardsville 50

Granite City moved to 12-9 following a one-point win against Edwardsville, which fell to 13-8.

Cahokia 66, Jerseyville 59

The Comanches improved to 5-16 following a seven-point win against the Panthers, who dropped to 12-9.
