Columbia advances to finals in Okawville, two MVC teams squaring off in Litchfield
Mid-winter basketball tournaments continue taking place this week.
Here is a look at the latest results from Friday night. The BND will continue to post score updates through the weekend as they become available.
Okawville Invitational
Wesclin 71, Gibault 60
The Warriors eased past the Hawks in semifinal action.
Kaden Augustine led Gibault (18-4) with 16 points. Wesclin improved to 15-7.
Columbia 65, Alton Marquette 48
The Eagles (20-2) rolled into the tournament finals with a 17-point verdict against the Explorers (12-10)
Dylan Murphy and Jack Steckler led Columbia with 17 points apiece.
Championship: Columbia will face Wesclin for the tournament title at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
40th annual Nashville Invitational
Nashville 52, Mascoutah 38
The host Hornets (13-9) collected a 14-point victory against the Indians (15-6) in the semifinal round.
Nashville led 36-34 after three quarters before outscoring Mascoutah 16-4 the final eight minutes to pull away.
Breese Central 54, Mater Dei 41
The Cougars eased past their Clinton County rival by 13 points to advance to the title game.
Breese Central improved to 20-2, while Mater Dei dropped to 10-9.
Championship: Breese Central faces Nashville for the tournament title at 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
58th annual Sparta Mid-Winter Classic
Freeburg 73, Trico 49
The Midgets improved to 15-7 with a 24-point win.
Red Bud 51, Waterloo 48
The Musketeers moved to 15-7 following a three-point win against the Bulldogs, who dropped to 6-15.
Sparta 51, Murphysboro 46
Sparta improved to 13-5 with a five-point victory.
Litchfield Rick McGraw Memorial
Triad 65, Greenville 44
Civic Memorial 83, Taylorville 79
Two Mississippi Valley Conference clubs will square off in the title game of the tournament in Litchfield.
In one semifinal game, Triad dispatched Greenville by 21 points. In the other semifinal contest, Civic Memorial outlasted Taylorville.
The Knights went to 17-5 while the Eagles improved to 11-11. Triad defeated Civic Memorial 46-37 in December.
Championship: Tip off is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
