Poll results: Nashville star forward Boys Player of the Week in southwestern Illinois
Bennett Briles of Nashville High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Boys Player of the Week high school basketball poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
In recent action, Briles, a senior forward, posted 22 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist in a 76-70 win against Bloomington Central Catholic at the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout and 17 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block in a 40-39 win against El Paso Gridley at Benton High School.
Overall, Briles, who secured 86% of the votes, entered weekend action averaging 16.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 37% from 3-point range.
Here were the other candidates for the week of Jan. 30-Feb. 3:
- Daylen Byrd, Belleville West High School, junior, G. Byrd posted 17 points in a 57-52 win over Mascoutah and 15 points in a 68-57 loss against Springfield Southeast.
- Sam Donald, Columbia High School, sophomore, F. Donald posted 10 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists in a 73-49 win over Civic Memorial and 17 points and 11 rebounds in a 51-45 win over Gibault.
- Michael Fox, Mascoutah High School, senior, G. Fox notched 11 points in a 57-52 loss to Belleville West and 25 points in a 58-42 win against Jerseyville.
- Dalton Markus, Mater Dei Catholic High School, senior, F. Markus posted 10 points in a 46-44 win against Centralia and 14 points in a 48-44 victory against Breese Central.
- Jordan Pickett, Belleville East High School, senior, F. Pickett posted 34 points and 9 rebounds in a 96-79 victory over Cahokia and 22 points in a 66-33 win against Springfield Lanphier at the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout. Pickett also posted 10 points in a 33-32 loss to Edwardsville.
- Koby Wilmoth, O’Fallon High School, senior, F. At the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout, Wilmoth posted 25 points in a 65-35 victory over Whitfield and 14 points in a 55-50 victory over Chaminade
- Jamorie Wysinger, Collinsville High School, junior, G. Wysinger posted 25 points in a 59-55 victory over Lift for Life and 17 points in a 56-48 win over East St. Louis.
