Poll results: Dupo Tigers star forward/center Girls Player of the Week in southwest IL​

T’Yonna Burris of Dupo High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Girls Player of the Week high school basketball poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent action, Burris, a senior, power forward/center, averaged 18 points, 16 rebounds and 3 assists per game in the Tigers wins over Gibault (58-51) and Valmeyer (49-34). Against the Hawks, Burris posted 15 points and 14 rebounds and followed that with 21 points and 19 rebounds against the Pirates.

Burris, who secured 48% of the votes, finished the season averaging 9.8 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.77 steals per game for the Tigers, who went 14-12 this winter.

Here were the other candidates from the week of Feb. 6-10:

  • Laila Blakeny, Alton High School, senior, G. Blakeny posted 21 points in a 73-45 win over Visitation and 30 points in a 68-38 victory against Collinsville.
  • Shannon Dowell, O’Fallon High School, senior, G. Dowell posted 21 points and 6 rebounds in a 56-20 victory over Collinsville.

  • Karsen Jany, Columbia High School, senior, G. Jany posted 27 points and 9 rebounds in a 52-35 win over Roxana and 20 points along with 5 assists in a 70-30 victory against Red Bud.
  • Kylie Kisgen, Freeburg High School, senior, G. Kisgen posted 19 points in a 48-46 win against Breese Central and 18 points in a 55-48 loss against Waterloo.
  • Alyssa Koerkenmeier, Mater Dei Catholic High School, sophomore, C. Koerkenmeier collected 14 points and 9 rebounds in a 40-34 win against Civic Memorial and 6 points and 4 rebounds in a 37-24 win against Pinckneyville.

The poll ended at 8 a.m. Friday.
