Poll results: Breese Central standout guard BND Boys Player of the Week in southwest IL

Cody Dickshot of Breese Central High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Boys Player of the Week high school basketball poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent action, Dickshot, a senior guard, posted 19 points in a 60-46 victory over Wesclin and 17 points in a 51-37 win against Mater Dei to help the Cougars secure the regional title. Overall, Dickshot averaged 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists during regional action while collecting 5 steals for the Cougars, who ultimately reached the sectional championship.

Overall, Dickshot, who secured 71% of the votes, entered the weekend averaging 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.53 steals per game while shooting nearly 75% from the foul line for the Cougars.

Here were the other candidates for the week of Feb. 20-24:

• Jordan Pickett, Belleville East High School, senior, G. Pickett posted 27 points in a 69-35 win over Granite City and 29 points in a 52-50 loss to O’Fallon in the regional championship.
  
  
• Macaleab Rich, East St. Louis High School, senior, G. Rich posted 11 points in a 74-35 victory over Taylorville and 25 points with 13 rebounds in a 76-42 win against Jacksonville in helping the Flyers secure the regional title.
• Jaeden Rush, O’Fallon High School, junior, G. Rush posted 15 points in a 55-46 victory over Belleville West and 11 points in a 52-50 win against Belleville East in helping the Panthers capture the regional crown.
• Jake Wilkinson, Collinsville High School, senior, F. Wilkinson posted 20 points in a 71-56 win over Edwardsville and 17 points in a 53-47 loss to Quincy in the regional championship game.

The poll ended at 8 a.m. Friday.
