Metro-east boys basketball teams win easily in Wednesday’s sectional semifinals
The metro-east boys basketball postseason continued with several key sectional semifinal games Wednesday.
Here is a quick view of some of the outcomes. Also listed are Tuesday’s other sectional semifinal results involving local teams.
Pinckneyville Sectional, Class 2A
Breese Central 56, Carterville 33
The Cougars dominated Carterville in a 23-point victory Wednesday to push themselves into the sectional championship.
Breese Central improved to 29-4 while Carterville’s season concluded with a 26-6 record.
Next up: The Cougars will face Pinckneyville (27-6) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Pinckneyville High School for the sectional championship.
Centralia Sectional, Class 3A
Triad 51, Mount Vernon 34
The Knights head into the sectional championship after a 17-point victory against Mt. Vernon on Wednesday at Centralia High School.
Triad improved to 28-6 while Mount Vernon ended the season with a 21-9 record.
Next Up: The Knights will face East St. Louis (23-8) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Centralia High School for the sectional championship.

Hardin Calhoun Sectional, Class 1A
Gibault 66, Payson Seymour 59
Behind 24 points from Kaden Augustine, the Hawks knocked off Payson Seymour (18-16) in the sectional semifinals Tuesday.
Gibault improved to 28-7.
Next up: The Hawks will face either Springfield Calvary (26-7) in the sectional championship at 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Hardin Calhoun High School.
Centralia Sectional, Class 3A
East St. Louis 53, Centralia 39
The Flyers eased past the host Orphans on Tuesday to advance to the sectional championship.
East St. Louis improved to 23-8, while Centralia finished the season at 22-7.
Macaleab Rich anchored the Flyers’ attack with 19 points, while Antwan Robinson chipped in 11 points.
Next up: East St. Louis now will face Triad (28-6) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Centralia High School for the sectional championship.
Moline Sectional, Class 4A
O’Fallon 64, Quincy 35
The Panthers stormed into the sectional championship game with a 29-point win against Quincy on Tuesday at Alton High School.
O’Fallon improved to 25-7 while Quincy finished at 26-5.
Rini Harris led the Panthers with 19 points, while Isaiah Camper posted 19 points and Jaeden Rush added 13 points. O’Fallon led 15-7 after a quarter, 28-15 at halfitme and continued to roll in the second half en route to the victory.
Next up: The Panthers will face Moline (31-3) at 7 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Moline High School for the sectional championship.
