Poll results: Triad defensive midfielder is Southwestern Illinois Athlete of the Week
Charlie Gentemann of Triad High School is the winner of the Belleville News-Democrat Athlete of the Week, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
Gentemann, a senior, scored two goals, one of them the game-winner, and had an assist in Triad’s 12th-straight victory over Highland, 8-0.
Gentemann received 98% of the votes after the Knights’ win streak continues this season.
Here are this week’s nominees:
- Allie Russo, Highland High School, Junior, Libero: Russo had 21 digs in Highland’s win over Waterloo.
- Abby Shanafelt, Breese Central High School, Senior, Outside Hitter: Schroeder notched 11 assists with 25 serves in the Cougars 2-0 win over Wood River.
- Maddie Hime, Highland High School, Senior, Setter: Hime had 11 assists, 7 digs, 2 blocks, and 9 kills with a .28 hitting percentage in Highland’s victory over Waterloo.
