LaJarvia Brown

Alton Girls Basketball

One of the nation’s tops in the long jump and triple-jump and headed to Texas A & M University, Brown has been as good as advertised with an 18.7 average for the Redbirds (1-2).

Teddy Fifer

Metro-East Lutheran Basketball

A 6-1 senior guard, Fifer helped lead Metro-East Lutheran to a 5-0 start and championship of its own Thanksgiving tournament. Fifer is averaging 18.3 points and also has 13 3-pointers. He helped lead the Knights to one-point victories over Gibault and Southwestern, scoring 18 points against Gibault in the championship. Fifer also had 25 points in a win over Odin and 20 against Valmeyer.

Logan Kohrmann

Central Basketball

Kohrmann surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career and the senior guard was also the Cougars’ leading scorer while helping lead them to the championship of the Effingham St. Anthony Tournament. A first-team All-Area pick last season, Kohrmann is averaging more than 15 points per game.

Kate Martin, Rachel Pranger and Makenzie Silvey

Edwardsville Girls Basketball

All this Tigers trio did this week was combine to score nearly 50 points a game as they led undefeated Edwardsville (4-0) to an easy win at the Springfield Southeast Tournament. So dominant were the Tigers that their slimmest margin of victory was 27 points (61-34) against Rochester.

Maddie Nekola

Mascoutah Girls Basketball

Fresh off of leading the Indians to a third place finish at the Class 3A State Volleyball Tournament, Nekola averaged 14.5 this past week as Mascoutah (4-0) won the Nashville Girls Thanksgiving Tournament.

Javon Pickett

Belleville East Basketball

The 6-6 Pickett started his season off with a bang as he scored 41 points in the Lancers season-opening win over Springfield at the Charleston Tournament. Pickett, who has offers from Illinois and other Division I schools, averaged 24 points in four games for East (3-1), whose only loss came against host Centralia.

Amanda Ponce and Alex LaPorta

Highland Girls Basketball

Counted on as the Bulldogs go-to players this season, Ponce (13.0.) and LaPorta (11.4) were impressive in leading Highland to a 3-2 mark at the Salem Tournament.

Dante Ray

Althoff Basketball

With eight of the 14 players on Althoff’s basketball roster still committed to the quest for a 4A state football championship, head coach Greg Leib had to rely on backups and junior varsity players to tip off the Crusaders’ season at the Waterloo Battling Bulldog Tournament. Dante Ray, a junior, gave Leib a better-than-a-backup performance in a season-opening win over the host Bulldogs, scoring a game-high 22 points.

Allie Troeckler

Civic Memorial Girls Basketball

A Class 3A all-state selection a year ago, the 5-11 Troeckler was one of a few bright spots for the Eagles (2-3) at the Salem Tournament. A junior, Troeckler averaged 18.8 points in five games.

Kendra Wilken and Grace Yaunches

Central Girls Basketball

Despite losing its final game to host O’Fallon, the Cougars one-two punch helped their team captured the O’Fallon Thanksgiving Tournament. The Cougars (3-1) were led by Yaunches (16.5 ppg) and Wilken (12 ppg.).
