Former Belleville West right-hander Parker Beine, now a sophomore at Jefferson Junior College, has signed with Division I Marshall in West Virginia.
Beine missed the majority of his freshman season at Jefferson with a shoulder injury, but is healthy for his sophomore season this spring. He was 7-5 with a 3.01 ERA as a senior All-Area pick at Belleville West in 2014, striking out 82 in 69 2/3 innings.
“Parker had a very good fall coming off (rehab),” Marshall coach Jeff Waggoner said. “He has a ton of upside and already has good stuff on the mound. He has three plus pitches and will throw upper 80s and low 90s. We are excited to watch Parker progress even more this spring and come in and have an immediate impact on our staff.”
— Southwestern Illinois College sophomore right-hander Anthony Garza, a Belleville East graduate, has signed with Division II Missouri Science & Technology.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound pitcher was 3-2 with two saves and a team-leading 1.69 ERA last season, working exclusively out of the bullpen. He also struck out 14 in 21 1/3 innings.
Last summer, Garza was selected to the play in the Mon-Clair League and Metro League all-star games. As a senior at Belleville East in 2013, Garza was 3-2 with a 1.39 ERA for a regional championship team.
He will major in petroleum engineering at Missouri S&T.
“Anthony came highly recommended and after we saw him we knew why,” Missouri S& T coach Todd DeGraffenreid said. “Anthony will be converting from a closer to a starter this season and we anticipate that will be the role he will play for us. He brings a good fastball, above average slider and a good feel for a change.
“We expect Anthony to be an impact arm for us in 2017.”
Missouri S&T was 25-26 last season, reaching the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament for the fourth time in five years.
— Belleville West senior volleyball outside hitter Nicole Braner recently signed with Kaskaskia College near Centralia.

Kaskaskia was 25-10 last season, winning Region 24 and Great Rivers Athletic Conference championships. Twelve players on the current roster are from the metro-east.
