Mascoutah freshman Cole Junker didn’t win a state title or even come back with a medal on Saturday from the IHSA State Swimming and Diving Championships.
But the versatile Indians swimmer did earn a couple of top 20 finishes and a whole lot of experience for the future.
One of five local swimmers competing this weekend at Evanston Township High School, Junker placed 14th in the 100 yard backstroke and 20th in the 200 yard individual medley.
Barely missing a berth in the finals, Junker with a time of 51.89 seconds in the 100 yard backstroke. That finish came just a little while before Junker placed 20th in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1 minute 56.53 seconds in the 200 yard individual medley.
