Central High senior Kendra Wilken and Althoff junior Kyleigh Vaught each were voted first-team all-state on the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Class 1A-2A Girls Basketball All-State Team released at the state tournament.
Wilken is a 6-foot-2 center who signed with St. Louis University. She also was the only unanimous first-team selection on the Associated Press Class 1A-2A all-state teams.
Wilken averaged 18 points and 12 rebounds for the 26-6 Cougars and the four-year starter helped her teams to a 117-14 record. She also set school records with 2,262 career points and 1,197 rebounds.
Vaught, a junior guard, averaged 15.1 points for Althoff (9-19) this season. She also had a team-high 61 3-pointers, 68 assists and 53 steals.
The coaches voted Lebanon sophomore Kendra Bass and Mater Dei junior Kelsey Gerdes fourth-team all-state.
Being voted special mention all-state were New Athens seniors Alina Lance and Abby Marlow, Central senior Grace Yaunches, Central sophomore Faye Meissner, Lebanon sophomore Krista Bass, Wesclin senior Mackenzie Kellogg, Mater Dei junior Logan Braundmeier and Nashville sophomores Mackenzie McFeron and Karly Stanowski
Wesclin junior wins state 3-point competition
Wesclin High junior Cami Meddows hit 10 3-pointers in the final round Saturday to win the Class 2A Country Financial 3-point Showdown at the state tournament in Normal.
The win advances Meddows to the Queen of the Hill 3-point competition Friday and Saturday at the 3A-4A state tournament.
Meddows hit eight 3-pointers to win her preliminary-round group, needing an extra round in which she outscored her opponent, Rockford Christian freshman Kinsley McIlroy, 7-2.
