For the first time in school history, the Althoff High boys basketball team has reached the top 25 in the national rankings.
Althoff (26-2) came in at No. 25 this week in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national rankings and was one of only two teams from Illinois in the poll. Chicago Simeon, a Class 4A powerhouse, was ranked 24th while Chaminade from St. Louis, the only team to beat a full-squad Althoff team this season, was 19th.
“It’s great to get that kind of recognition,” Althoff coach Greg Leib said. “It’s a wonderful accomplishment by the kids and I don’t know who votes for it. I never dreamt it. Little old Althoff Catholic High School being mentioned with some of these guys is fun.”
The No. 1-ranked team in the country this week is 30-0 Chino Hills, Calif.
