VIDEO: Watch the incredible game-winning shot by Rockridge at the Illinois state basketball tournament

PEORIA Rockridge junior Carson Frakes hit the “Shot Heard ‘Round Peoria” on Friday night when he sank an incredible game-winning shot from well beyond halfcourt to beat Hales Franciscan 45-43 in Class 2A state tournament semifinals.

Even though Frakes is right-handed, he made the shot shooting left-handed. It was one of the most dramatic endings in state tournament history

With their team trailing, the Rockets were bringing the ball upcourt when Gentry Whiteman fell to the court. He kept dribbling and got the ball through two defenders to Frakes, who let it fly before the entire arena erupted in wild cheers when the ball splashed through the net just ahead of the buzzer.

Frakes ran to the other side of the court and immediately found himself on the bottom of a huge pile of his teammates while the stunned Carver Arena crowd went crazy.

Rockridge will play St. Joseph-Ogden for the 2A state title at 8:15 p.m. Saturday.
