Lebanon advances to tournament title game; Edwardsville stomps West

Bass leads Lebanon to tournament final

Krista Bass scored 19 points in Lebanon’s 55-41 win over Alton Marquette on Thursday to move the Greyhounds into the title game of the Carrollton Tournament.

The win kept Lebanon’s hope of a perfect season alive.

The Greyhounds got off to a quick start, leading the Explorers 34-18 at halftime, and stayed ahead for the remainder of the game.

Madison Schoenfeld and Abigail Reinneck were key contributors to the Greyhounds win as well, scoring 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Lebanon (24-0) will play Quincy Notre Dame for the tournament title Saturday. Alton Marquette (15-7) will play Gibault on Monday.

Edwardsville gets another easy win

There was no stopping Edwardsville as it sailed to another win Thursday night, topping Belleville West 64-21.

The Tigers, the Class 4A runners-up at state last season, were led by Kate Martin’s 16 points. Jaylen Townsend also pitched in with 13 points.

Edwardsville (21-0) will continue its quest for a perfect season at Granite City on Tuesday. Belleville West (5-16) will play Collinsville on Monday.

Civic Memorial beats Columbia

In nonconference play Thursday, Civic Memorial topped Columbia 59-48.

Columbia had a 2- point lead going into halftime but Civic Memorial came out strong in the second half to surge ahead.

As the regular season draws to a close, Dupo beat Valmeyer 41-22 in a battle to avoid finishing last in the Cahokia Conference.

The Tigers’ leading scorers were MacKenzie Scheppelman, who scored 12 points, and Annalese Gill, who scored 11.

Triad is no match for Highland

Highland easily moved past Triad 72-39 on Thursday.

The Bulldogs limited the Knights to only 12 points in the first half. Highland was on fire at the opposite end of the court as well, leading 42-12 at halftime.

Ellie Brown was the team’s top scorer with 18 points.
