Mater Dei gets an upset win over #1 ranked Harrisburg
In the Class 2A McLeansboro Sectional championship Thursday, Mater Dei came away with a 55-44 win against undefeated Harrisburg.
The Knights had their work cut out for them but surprised Harrisburg by leading for a majority of the game. At the half, Mater Dei had a 28-22 lead.
Both sides were on edge as the game entered the fourth quarter with Mater Dei still on top 39-28.
Mater Dei (23-7) will play Teutopolis at the Salem super-sectional Monday.
East St. Louis tops Civic Memorial for regional crown
East St. Louis beat Civic Memorial 42-36 on Thursday to claim the Class 3A Civic Memorial Regional championship.
East St. Louis (16-10) will play Carterville at the Carbondale sectional Tuesday.
Salem narrowly beats Carbondale for regional championship
Salem topped Carbondale 46-43 on Thursday to win the Class 3A Mount Vernon Regional championship.
Salem will play Central at the Carbondale sectional Tuesday.
