Highland, O’Fallon set to battle again at Mascoutah Girls Basketball Invitational

The O’Fallon Panthers are a win away from a three-peat at the Mascoutah Girls Invitational Tournament.

Junior Amelia Bell scored 18 points and three teammates were also in double figures as O’Fallon rolled into its third straight title game at the annual Mascoutah Invitational Friday with a lopsided 64-38 semifinal win over Southwestern Conference rival Belleville West.

O’Fallon (12-2) trailed the Maroons (9-4) 16-15 after one quarter but allowed only 22 points the rest of the way to move into the championship game.

The Panthers will take on the Highland Bulldogs which defeated Nashville 44-31 in the other semi-final on Friday. The title game will be a rematch from a year ago when O’Fallon nipped the Bulldogs 49-48 in the championship game a year ago.

Gametime on Saturday is set for 4:30 p.m.

On Friday, Tyana Lovelace added 16 points for the Panthers while Avery Christopher and Shannon Dowell chipped in 11 points each.

Highland 44, Nashville 31

Bella LaPorta and Ellie Brown scored 10 points each for Highland (11-3). Alyssa Cole paced Nashville with 12 points

Nashville will take on Belleville West in the third place game at 3 p.m.

Lift for Life will play Belleville East in the consolation final beginning at noon while East St. Louis will play Mater Dei in the fifth game at 1:30 p.m.
