The Belleville West Maroons beat the Columbia Eagles 2-1, in the first round of the Triad softball tournament Friday.
Columbia was the first to score in the top of the third, but West answered in the bottom half and scored the game-winner in the fourth.
Paige Cates pitched the full game for West, allowing five hits and one run while striking out eight also going 1-for-2 at the plate.
Haley Dunn went 2-for-3 at the plate while both Kiri Evans and Abigail Gibson went 1-3. Gibson had an RBI.
For the Eagles, Lexi Touchette went 3-for-3 with a double. Weilbacher also went 2-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI. Pitcher Kaelyn Rheinecker pitched a full six innings, allowing five hits and striking out three.
West (9-10) will play Highland at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, while Columbia (18-3) takes on Althoff at 9 a.m.
O’FALLON 4, TRIAD 3
O’Fallon defeated the host Triad Knights 4-3.
Triad scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the first, but O’Fallon came back in the top of the fourth and fifth to claim the first round win of the host team’s tournament.
Three Panthers had RBIs — Sarah Diessner who went 1-for-4, Courtney Keller who went 1-for-3, and Katie Moore who went 1-for-2. Ashley Schloer and Miley Brunner went 1-for-4 while Brunner notched a double. Moore earned the win, striking out two over five innings.
O’Fallon (12-9) faces Dupo Saturday at 9 a.m. while Triad (13-6) looks for the win at home against Chatham Glenwood at 10:30 a.m.
