Belleville Hilgards American Legion baseball team announce new hall of famers, awards
The Belleville Hilgards American Legion Post 58 baseball team will honor its top players from both the 2018 and 2019 seasons at the annual luncheon and awards presentation on Jan. 11 at the Belleville/Swansea Moose Lodge 1221.
The event to the public.
Scheduled is the induction of five former players into the Hilgards Hall of Fame. The 2018 inductees are Tom Fritsche (1974-76), Marcus Hustedde (2005-07)and Randy Hoelscher (2006-08). Jonathon Schweppe (2007-08) and Tim Mueth (1991-94) are members of the 2019 class.
The Barney Elser Awards will be presented to Matt Schroeder, Dillon Sunnquist and Nick Westerhide for the 2018 season. Will Lanxon, Alex Bernard and JB Biermann are the winners for the 2019 season.
Buddy Gore is the winner of the Hilgards Player of the Year in 2018 while Sunnquist is t he 2019 recipient.
The Al ‘Boots’ Budde Pitcher of the Year is Alex Bernard (2018) and Hunter Grupe (2019) the Bob Groom Heritage Award goes to Ryan Mentzer (2018) and Justin Goerger (2019).
The John Schmidt “Good Guy” Award goes to Bud and Sandy Gore (2018) and Dale Schwoebel (2019).
The luncheon will be from 12 to 3 p.m. with the awards presentation set for 1 p.m. A chicken dinner is available for $12 per person and a cash bar will also be available. Those interested in dinner need to RSVP by Jan. 4 to either Greg Eschman at (314) 609-9553 or Debbie Belleville at 560-9960.
