Softball roundup: Belleville East, Lebanon and New Athens move on


Belleville East 4, Granite City 1

Belleville East took an early lead with two runs in the third inning and picked up two more for insurance in the fifth to top Southwestern Conference rival Granite City.

Tori Lonsdale got the win in the pitchers’ circle, lasting four and two-thirds innings. She allosed one earned run on six hits while striking out four Granite City batters.

Quiozha Alexander was 3-for-3 to lead East; Jessica Belzer was 3-for-4; Alex Boze was 1-for-2; Courtney Butler was 1-for-1. Amanda Dermody and Brooke Laidley each had RBI hits.

The Lancers (24-11) advance to the regional championship game against Edwardsville (25-7) Saturday at 11 a.m.

The winner will move on to the Normal 4A Sectional for a game against the winner of the Collinsville regional. That semifinal game against either O’Fallon or Alton will be played at Collinsville.


Jerseyville 3, Triad 1

Bethany Muenstermann allowed Triad just one earned run on five hits over a full seven innings to move Jerseyville into a regional championship.

Triad (21-3) got a solo home run from Abby Burroughs, who finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Payton Bode, Abigaile Knopf and Allison Kromray also had hits for the Knights.

Jerseyville (22-10) will face Freeburg (22-6) Saturday at 11 a.m. The winner advances to the Herrin 3A Sectional, which begins Tuesday.


New Athens 8, Albion (Edwards County) 1

Abby Marlow pitched a complete game scattering eight hits while striking out 10. Marlow also had two hits and two RBIs. Jenna Alfeldt had a double and two RBIs and Sophie Cooper contributed a double and one run batted in.

Casey Wilderman hit a solo home run and Taylor Junge and Savannah Idecker each had a hit for New Athens.

Faith Fishell and Hallie Murbarger each had two hits for Edwards County. Junior Olivia Loudermilk took the loss in the pitcher’s circle.


Lebanon 6, Clay City 0

Freshman Abigail Reinneck got her second post-season win in the pitcher’s circle, allowing just five hits in the shutout of Clay City Co-op. It was Reinneck who helped the Greyhounds clinched the regional championship with a no-hitter Saturday. She helped her own cause Wednesday with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Lebanon took an early lead on a three-run home run by Kendra Bass. It added two runs in the second.

The Greyhounds (10-19) will face New Athens (21-5) for the sectional championship Saturday at 11 a.m.


The scheduled game between Cobden and Steeleville was rescheduled for Thursday at 4:30 p.m. due to rain.
