Icy road conditions result in cancellations of area high school events

Winter weather has caused the cancellation of some Friday night basketball games including:

▪  The Wesclin at Okawville boys basketball game on Friday.

“I think some areas got hit worse than others by the storm. It started about 7 p.m. here last night and came down pretty steady for about three hours,” Okawville coach and athletic director Jon Kraus said Friday morning. “The back roads are slippery and the parking lots are still pretty icy.

“We just thought it better that we should cancel tonight. We’ll have a makeup date announced next week.”

▪  The Freeburg at Carlyle boys basketball game in the Cahokia Conference has been postponed. The game will be played Jan. 13. The junior varsity game begins at 1 p.m. with the varsity game to follow.
