Alton defeats Edwardsville; Highland tops Triad

Caldwell leads Alton past Edwardsville

Alton beat Edwardsville 55-50 in Southwestern Conference play.

Kevin Caldwell scored 15 points and was aided by Josh Rivers and Darrell Smith, who scored 10 points apiece.

The Tigers wasted a 31-point effort by senior Jack Marinko.

Alton (10-5) next plays Champaign Central at the Chick-fil-A Classic at Belleville East on Tuesday. Edwardsville (10-5) will play Thornton Fractional North in the Salem Tournament on Thursday.

Effingham St. Anthony beat Mater Dei 57-47.

St. Anthony was led by Adam Levitt, who scored 18 points.

Mater Dei (7-9) plays Granite City in the Nashville Invitational Tournament on Friday.

Highland defeated Triad in close game, 44-41.

Highland (11-5) will play Jerseyville on Monday. Triad (8-8) next plays Salem on Thursday.

Red Bud gets a conference win

Red Bud topped Lebanon 50-35 and remains at the top of the Cahokia Conference standings with a 6-1 league record.

Red Bud had three players score in the double figures. Blake Cowell led the charge with 14 points. Caleb Reichmann pitched in 13 points, and Griffin Ziebold had 10 points.

Lebanon (7-9) will play Taylorsville in the Litchfield Invitational Tournament on Saturday. Red Bud (10-5) will play New Athens on Monday, Jan. 23.

Edwardsville cruises to another victory

Edwardsville continued its perfect season in dominant fashion Friday with its 80-22 win over Alton.

The Tigers were led by senior Myriah Noodel-Haywood, who scored 16 points. Several other Tigers had big performances as well. Quierra Love scored 14 points, while Kate Martin and Jaylen Townsend had 13 points apiece. Martin also had 10 rebounds. Rachel Pranger pitched in with 12 points.

With the win, Edwardsville stays firmly planted at the top of Southwestern Conference standings. Conference rival O’Fallon is second with a league record of 8-2.

Edwardsville (18-0) will be in action against St. Joseph’s on Wednesday. Alton (6-11) will play Granite City on Tuesday.
