Granite City gets another thrilling win; Alton Marquette continues perfect season

Granite City gets conference win

Emmitt Gordon scored 17 points, and Jerry Watson pitched in 14 points in Granite City’s 54-53 win against Alton on Friday.

The Warriors are no stranger to close conference games this season. Earlier in the year, Granite City won 51-49 against East. St. Louis on a buzzer-beater, then narrowly escaped with a 57-56 win over Belleville East a few days later.

Despite their thrilling victories, the Warriors are still ranked eighth in the Southwestern Conference standings with a league record of 3-5.

Granite City (7-13) will be in action against Waterloo on Tuesday. Alton (11-8) will play Belleville East on Friday.

Alton Marquette destroys Wood River

Alton Marquette dominated Wood River 89-20 on Friday to continue its undefeated season.

The Explorers denied the Oilers any points in the first quarter and limited them to only six points at halftime.

Reagan Snider led the charge for the Explorers, scoring 25 points. Three other Marquette players scored in double figures: Jake Hall (15), Chris Hartrich (14) and Isaiah Ervin (13).

Marquette (22-0) will play Madison on Tuesday. Wood River (5-16) will attempt end an eight-game losing streak as it takes on Nokomis on Saturday.
