Granite City boys win; New Athens girls get conference victory

Granite City beats Waterloo

Granite City beat Waterloo 64-58 on Wednesday.

Granite City scored a 3-pointer at the second-quarter buzzer to extend its lead going into halftime to 25-20.

The Bulldogs had an opportunity to close the gap at the end of the third quarter when Eli Dodd scored and was fouled as time expired on the clock. However, he missed his free throw attempts, giving the Warriors a 42-36 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Emmitt Gordon scored a team-high 22 points for the Warriors. Zidane Moore pitched in 13 points.

The Bulldogs had a 22-point effort from Eli Dodd.

Granite City (8-13) will play Collinsville on Friday. Waterloo (6-17) will play Triad on Friday.

New Athens tops Steeleville

Courtney Ragland scored 18 points to lead New Athens to a 46-43 win over conference rival Steeleville.

Steeleville had a 25-20 lead going into the half, but New Athens came back strong in the second half.

The top scorer for Steeleville was Sydney Hood with 18 points.

New Athens (11-11) will play Shawnee at Cobden on Monday. Steeleville (15-8) will play Lebanon on Thursday.
