Wesclin boys top Vandalia; Freshman has big game for Jerseyville girls

Wesclin wins on the road against Vandalia
Wesclin beat Vandalia 46-37 on Saturday.
The top scorers for the Warriors were Brandon Courtney, with 16 points, and Hunter Ottensmeier, with 15 points.
Wesclin (19-4) will travel to face Central on Tuesday. Vandalia will play at Roxana on Tuesday Feb. 13.
Okawville easily beats Roxana
Okawville handily beat Roxana 76-40 on Saturday.
Okawville (16-8) will host New Athens on Tuesday. Roxana (4-20) will play Piasa Southwestern on Tuesday.
Mater Dei moves past Central
In a crosstown matchup Saturday night, Mater Dei beat Central 64-47.
Mater Dei (11-12) will play North Tech on Friday. Central (10-12) will play Wesclin on Tuesday.
Mount Vernon hands Cahokia a loss
Mount Vernon beat Cahokia 57-46 in conference play Saturday.
Mount Vernon (12-9) will travel to Fairfield on Monday. Cahokia (11-11) will play in another conference matchup against Carbondale on Friday.
Girls basketball
Breden leads Jerseyville to victory
Freshman Clare Breden scored 21 points in Jerseyville’s 52-46 win over Columbia on Saturday.
Sophia Bonalid was Columbia’s leading scorer with 17 points.
Jerseyville (20-5) will travel to Triad on Monday. Columbia (15-9) will play against Central on Monday.
Althoff gets conference win against Centralia
Gabby Siekmann scored 11 points in Althoff’s 47-42 win over Centralia on Saturday.
Megan Lewis and Tiffani Siekmann had 10 points apiece for the Crusaders in the win.
With the win, Althoff still remains in the middle of South Seven conference standings with a league record of 7-3.
Althoff (14-13) will play Wesclin on Monday. Centralia (3-21) will travel to Marion on Monday.
