After 31 years, the annual boys basketball tournament at Collinsville High has a new name.
The tournament, played in December, will be called the Collinsville-Prairie Farms Holiday Classic. Prairie Farms, based in Carlinville, has replaced Schnucks as the primary sponsor.
“At Prairie Farms, giving back to the communities where our farm families and employees live and work is part of our heritage that began over 75 years ago,” Prairie Farms Executive Vice President and CEO Ed Mullins said in a statement released Friday. “Becoming the new title sponsor for the Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament was the right thing to do for the athletes and students and will keep the tournament thriving for many years.”
Collinsville High officials received word earlier this year that Schnucks would withdraw its sponsorship. That ended an association that began in 1984.
