Basketball roundup: Collinsville, O’Fallon boys notch big victories
Here is a brief recap of Saturday’s boys basketball action.
Scott Credit Union Edwardsville High School Shootout
Edwardsville eases past Highland
The Tigers girls team posted a solid 62-48 win against Highland.
Sydney Harris led the Tigers (9-0) with 22 points, while Quierra Love added 13 points and Kylie Burg scored 10 points. The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 6-2.
Next up: Edwardsville hosts Soldan at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16; Highland entertains Civic Memorial at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18.
Collinsville outlasts Chicago Morgan Park in overtime thriller
The Kahoks (8-0) posted a thrilling 67-65 overtime win against Chicago Morgan Park. Collinsville outscored Morgan Park 7-5 in the extra session to prevail.
Ray’Sean Taylor led Collinsville with 24 points, while Nate Hall posted 15 points and Keydrian Jones added 14 points.
University of Illinois recruit Adam Miller paced Morgan Park with 32 points. His 3-point attempt at the end of overtime narrowly missed.
Next up: Collinsville entertains East St. Louis at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Edwardsville rolls past Althoff
The Tigers improved to 5-2 with a 46-37 win against the Crusaders, who fell to 2-6.
Edwardsville raced to a 20-7 lead after a quarter and never looked back.
Next up: The Tigers host East St. Louis at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17; The Crusaders are off until 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, when they face O’Fallon in the Collinsville Tournament.
Triad rallies past Carbondale
The Knights outscored the Terriers 16-8 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 53-50 victory. The Knights trailed 31-19 at halftime.
Luke Cox led Triad with 25 points, while Nate Winslow added 10 points, as the Knights improved to 6-1.
Next up: Triad hosts Roxana at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Belleville West falls to Lincoln
The Maroons dropped to 3-4 following a 61-34 loss to the Railsplitters.
Next up: West hosts East St. Louis at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.
O’Fallon takes down Centralia
The Panthers improved to 7-1 with an impressive 49-40 home win against previously undefeated Centralia.
O’Fallon trailed 17-15 at halftime but outscored the 7-1 Orphans 34-23 in the second half. Shaun Riley II led the Panthers with a game-high 18 points.
Next up: The Panthers host Belleville East at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.
MICDS shootout
Columbia drops verdict to MICDS
The Eagles fell to 4-3 following a 69-56 loss to host MICDS.
The teams were tied at 47 heading into the final quarter before MICDS outscored Columbia 22-9 to prevail.
Sam Horner led the Eagles with 16 points, while Jackson Holmes added 15 points and Jacob O’Connor posted 12 points.
Next up: The Eagles visit Salem at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Mascoutah falls to Clayton
The Indians suffered a 67-53 setback to Clayton to fall to 4-3.
Next up: Mascoutah hosts Civic Memorial at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17
Gibault suffers setback to Duchesne
The Hawks trailed 19-10 after a quarter and 30-15 at halftime before falling to the Pioneers 44-32.
Kameron Hanvey led the Hawks (3-4) with nine points.
Next up: Gibault travels to Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.
Mater Dei loses to O’Fallon Christian
The Knights led 28-20 at halfitme but were outscored 41-25 in the second half to fall 61-53 to the Eagles.
Jacob Schadegg led Mater Dei (6-3) with 19 points, while Grant Goebel scored 13 points.
Next up: The Knights then host Gibault at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20.
