Boys basketball roundup: Collinsville remains unblemished, O’Fallon downs East

Here is a brief recap of Friday’s boys basketball action.

O’Fallon topples Belleville East

The Panthers improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in the Southwestern Conference with a solid 56-50 home win against the Lancers, who dropped 5-4 overall, 2-2 in league play.

O’Fallon’s Drew Tebbe led all scorers with 23 points, while teammate Shaun Riley II posted 12 points. Ethyn Brown paced the Lancers with 20 points.

Next up: Both teams resume action Friday, Dec. 27, at the Collinsville Prairie Farms Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament, as the Panthers face Althoff at 9 a.m. and the Lancers take on Decatur MacArthur at 1 p.m.

Collinsville eases past Alton

The Kahoks remained undefeated with a 76-63 SWC win against visiting Alton.

Ray’Sean Taylor led Collinsville (9-0 overall, 4-0 in the SWC) with a game-high 26 points, while Nate Hall added 20 points and Keydrian Jones scored 15 points. Dante Herrin paced Alton (5-3, 1-2) with 14 points, while Camren Edwards posted 11 points and Ky’lun Rivers scored 10 points.

Next up: Alton suits up again at 4:20 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, against Castle, Indiana, at Evansville Bosse (Ind.). The Redbirds then open play in the Centralia Tournament at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26. The Kahoks face Oakville at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at the Collinsville Tournament.

Granite City knocks off Edwardsville

The Warriors improved to 6-2 with a 52-46 home win against the Tigers, who dropped to 5-3.

Next up: The Warriors visit Carbondale at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, before opening play in the Collinsville Tournament at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, against Mundelein. The Tigers battle Decatur Eisenhower at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at the Collinsville Tournament.

Freeburg collects win against Columbia

The Midgets went on the road and posted a solid 58-45 Cahokia Conference victory against the Eagles.

Freeburg improved to 6-1 overall, 2-1 in league play. The Eagles dropped to 4-4, 0-1. Colin Brueggemann led the Midgets with 21 points, while Luke Ervie posted 14 points. Sam Horner paced Columbia with 16 points, while Jackson Holmes scored 14 points and Jacob O’Connor added 10 points.

Next up: Freeburg hosts Piasa Southwestern at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23, before taking on Valmeyer at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Columbia-Freeburg Tournament. Columbia faces Lovejoy at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at the holiday tournament.

Alton Marquette rolls past Civic Memorial

The host Explorers improved to 7-3 following a 55-31 win against the Eagles, who dropped to 1-7. Noah Turbyfill led all scorers with 13 points.

Next up: Both teams resume action Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Columbia-Freeburg Holiday Tournament, as the Explorers take on Freeburg at 7:30 p.m. and the Eagles face Lovejoy at 11 a.m.

Mater Dei dispatches Gibault

The Knights rolled to a 59-27 win against the visiting Hawks.

Jacob Schadegg scored a game-high 19 points for Mater Dei, which improved to 7-3. Kameron Hanvy led to 3-5 Hawks with nine points.

Next up: The Hawks face cross-town rival Waterloo at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, before battling Columbia at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 26, at the Columbia-Freeburg Holiday Tournament. The Knights host Highland at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, at the Mater Dei Christmas Tournament.

Jerseyville defeats Waterloo

The Panthers moved to 6-3 overall, 2-0 in the Mississippi Valley Conference win against the Bulldogs, who dropped to 1-7, 0-2.

Tucker Shalley led all scorers with 22 points, while Matthew Jackson notched 15 points and Seth Churchman posted 14 points. Waterloo had five players in double figures, including Isaiah Campbell (15 points), Ian Schrader (11 points) and Austin Balabas, Dustin Crawford and Ty Lenhardt (who each had 10 points).

Next up: The Bulldogs visit Gibault before locking horns with Valmeyer at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at Columbia. The Panthers face Chester at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Pinckneyville Tournament.

Triad slips past Metro-East Lutheran (Thursday)

Triad went to 8-1 following a 49-45 win at home against Metro-East Lutheran, which fell to 3-4.

Luke Cox led Triad with 18 points, while Nate Winslow and Wally Good scored 10 points apiece.

Next up: Metro-East Lutheran faces Barr-Reeve, Indiana, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, at Evansville Bosse (Indiana) and then takes on Nashville at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Mater Dei Tournament. Triad faces Lincoln at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, at the Collinsville Tournament.
